The 2011 season wrap up
2011 was off to a slow start with the early flooding.
We held a number of Khanacross and motorkhana events including a round of the Qld Motorkhana Championship, 1 rally sprint, and a Qld Rally Championship event . The khanacross events have been popular this year, since we allowed Rally tyres to be used, and have had a number of fast 4WD vehicles attend(not without incidents). The Bitumen khanacross (Motormania CQ )held at Gracemere was very popular.
While our home track at Rosel Park was wet at the start of the year ,we ran a number of events at Mount Morgan show grounds, which is popular with the competitors.
The Qld Rally Championship was won this year by Wayne Menzies and Chris Baxter from Rockhampton. Wayne and Chris also won the Gallangowan Rally this year.
After running a QRC event at the Capricorn Resort in 2002, 03 , 04, 05, 06 ,07, 10 and 11 , the new managaers will no longer allow us to use the Wet lands roads for our rallies, thus ending another era. There are not sufficient alternate roads available at this tme to continue our QRC event.
Gordon and Marco travelled to Proserpine May weekend for round 1 of the NQ Khanacross Championship.
Gordon, Chris, Clay and Marco returned to Proserpine in December for a 2 day event on the upgraded track. 1st Gordon, 2nd Chris, 3rd Clay.
A number of Club members attended the World Rally Championship at Coffs Harbour in September as officials. Marco entered the event in the classic section , but retired early.
A big thank you to all the competitors, officials, volunteers and suppporters for their efforts this year.
2012 is shaping up to be a busy year, with proposals for a number of motorkhana and khanacross events, at least 2 rally sprints and at least 1 club rally. Also rounds of the Qld motorkhana championship and khanacross championship to be held on bitumen at Gracemere Saleyards.
Eric Stanley is also working on the logistics of running a stret type sprint in the show grounds in September.
Clubs from Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone and the Whitsundays are currently organising a CQ Khanacross championship.
